"Playfully restive compositions" - The New York Times
"A cliche-free, inventive player" - Jazz Times
Brooklyn quartet LITTLE WOMEN formed three years ago to create music that blurs the line between structure and spontaneity. The group’s sound distilled from a broad range of influences that stretch from classic Chicago free jazz thru pop music, punk rock, math metal, and harsh noise. Little Women never stops pushing into new sonic territory: splitting overtones to create ghost notes, violently disassembling their instruments onstage, and attacking written and improvised material with equal ferocity. During performances band members often experience side-effects more commonly associated with prescription drugs such as nausea, dizziness, and internal bleeding. Little Women stomps all over genres, creating some of the most adventurous, in-the-moment, wrenchingly honest music of their generation. Little Women’s first album, “teeth” was recently released by Gilgongo records (LP) and Sockets records (CD).
Members of Little Women have recorded and/or performed with: Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Mark Dresser, Jim Black, Trevor Dunn, Dave Liebman, Cooper-Moore, George Garzone, Gerry Hemingwa y, Joe Morris, Michael Formanek, and Mat Maneri.

Some guidance for the uninitiated Joe McPhee listener, from Time Out New York: "... His magical take on avant-garde sax remains one of the wonders of the scene. He still has one of the most beautiful tones on the planet, even when he’s reaching for jazz’s outer limits

DUOLOGY
MICHAEL MARCUS (Bb clarinet) TED DANIEL (trumpet & assorted brass)
DUOLOGY: The concept of performing as a duet with trumpet & clarinet is exceptionally challenging and rare. Duology was not an impulsive idea, but one that developed naturally through Marcus and Daniel's friendship and mutual musical aspirations. Since the beginning of Jazz, the p resence of clarinet and trumpet have been in the frontline and an intregal part of the music. Duology is continuing in that tradition.
**Time Out Magazine :Duology
Duology is one of the most exciting jazz partnerships we've run across in a long time. On their self-titled Boxholder debut, clarinetist Michael Marcus and brassman Ted Daniel--two undersung veterans with a lengthy shared history--demonstrate a finely tuned duo concept; writing duties are shared, and the improvisations display the kind of rapport and structural logic that could arise only from years of collaboration.
**Duology has two releases out on: Boxholder and SoulNote Records.
