The Hell’s Kitchen Cultural Center, Inc. is very pleased to present its seventh annual “Rhythm in the Kitchen” Music Festival, showcasing the artistic talents residing in one of New York’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The four - evening concert series will be held at the Church for All Nations, 417 West 57th Street, (between 9th and 10th Avenues), in Manhattan, from Wednesday, June 5th through Saturday, June 8th 2013.

“Rhythm 7” will be building on our previous “RITK” successes and our record of presenting excellent musical artists who have received accolades from national and international critics and audiences alike. This year’s eclectic program of musical styles will range from electronic experimentalism, jazz, new music classical, youth and college orchestras. The music will be performed by such noted musicians as Meridian7 aka Lori Napoleon, and Phillip Stearns; Michele Rosewoman and Liberty Ellman; new music composer, Joseph C. Phillips, Jr., with his special edition of Numinous for our festival; and The York College Jazz Ensemble, directed by Tom Zlabinger, among others.

One of the highlights of the “RITK” 7 festival will no doubt be In Performance Music Workshop, directed by Sean King, with guest JD Parran, an internationally renowned multi-instrumentalist, and a Hell’s Kitchen resident. IPMW is composed of 25 very gifted NYC middle and high school musicians. The orchestra will be appearing at our June 6th HKCC, Inc. Benefit, an evening which includes noted flutist Elise Wood, a mainstay of the Hell’s Kitchen community, performing with guitarist Bruce Edwards, as well as the duo of drummer David Jimenez and saxophonist Charles Evans.

Another exciting group to appear the next evening will be Alex Garcia and Afromantra. Mr. Garcia, another Hell’s Kitchen resident, and a 2012 Emmy Award winner, Afromantra has garnered well-deserved notice for its interpretation of Latin rhythms and sounds. We’re very excited this year to present another Hell’s Kitchen artist for the first time, pianist Eri Yamamoto, and her trio, while HKCC’s own co-founder, drummer William Hooker, on the festival each year, brings in his Strings 3.

HKCC, Inc. is particularly grateful to our “RITK” sponsors and partners this year: along with our main sponsor of several years, Tokio Marine, we would like very much to thank Harvestworks for its first collaboration with us on the evening of June 5th with its New York Electronic Art Festival; the Ministry of Culture and Lux Musix of Luxembourg, and RubyFlower Productions for supporting Luxembourg trumpeter Ernie Hammes, and his chosen Hell’s Kitchen musicians: Pierre Alain Goualch, Paul Wiltgen and Aidan Carroll on June 7th. We look forward to seeing you at, what will surely be a remarkable and, enjoyable music festival!
